Woman, 20, Shot and Killed Near Alexandria Park; Man Arrested

A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed Friday in Alexandria, Virginia, police say.

Officers went to the area of the 5500 block of Holmes Run Parkway just before 10 a.m. for a possible shooting.

They found Diamond Moore, of Alexandria, suffering from a gunshot to her upper body. Moore died at the hospital, police said.

William Thomas Layton, 32, of Largo, was arrested on Saturday and charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a violent felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is being held without bond.

"A doctor, a lawyer, a minister, a pastor - she may have been. But it has all been taken away over some man, 30-something year old that had no business even in the picture at all," Moore's aunt Sarah Carr said. "I'm mad. I'm real mad. I'm mad because it should not have happened."

Moore was a graduate of T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria.

Carr said she believes Moore's death has something to do with a recent dispute Moore had with a woman. The police have not said what led to the shooting.

Police said the killing is the fourth homicide this year in Alexandria.
