Wizards-Cavs Games Postponed, as Apparent Outbreak Continues for Wizards

Wizards-Cavs games postponed, as apparent outbreak continues originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The postponements continue for the Washington Wizards, who will now not play the Cavaliers on Sunday or Monday, as they were set to host Cleveland in a back-to-back.

That makes four consecutive postponements for the Wizards, a stretch that began on Wednesday with a game against the Jazz. The reason is an apparent outbreak of the coronavirus, as multiple players have tested positive and entered protocol.

The league requires teams to have eight healthy players in order to play a game and due to those tests, plus contact tracing to determine who else may have been affected, the Wizards are limited in their personnel.

Washington isn't the only team in this situation. So are the Boston Celtics and Phoenix Suns, the Wizards' last two opponents. Neither team has played a game since they faced the Wizards on Saturday and Monday.

The Wizards' primary concern is the health of the players and anyone else who may have been affected. As for the basketball implications, right now it only means a few extra days off. The league has yet to release the second half of the schedule with this type of scenario in mind. The schedule has flexibility for make-up games.

At some point, these games will be made up. In the meantime, the Wizards will aim to get this under control.
