Wet, Windy Weather Expected Tuesday

Fronts moving in to the area will make for a wet and windy Tuesday, Storm4 meteorologist Doug Kammerer predicts.

A cold front from the north and a storm front from the Gulf of Mexico both are headed this way.

Light-to-moderate rain can be expected overnight. Expect heavier rain west of Interstate 95 Tuesday morning. The best chance of severe weather for northern Virginia and southern Maryland will begin in the afternoon, when thunderstorms could develop.

Expect damaging winds up to 60 mph between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday. One to 2 inches of rain could fall in the D.C. area.

After that round of storms, more rain could be on its heels Tuesday night, Kammerer said.

The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood watch for Anne Arundel, Calvert and St. Mary's counties from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night.
