Water Main Leak Floods Silver Spring Street

Workers Restore Service To Residents During Holiday Weekend

People in more than 20 Silver Spring homes spent Saturday without water because of a water main leak.

Residents on Newton Street watched as water from a leaking eight-inch water main flooded their street. The water completely submerged the hillside street, causing a strong stream of water that ran beneath vehicles and past garbage cans.

Police closed off the road to traffic as the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission worked to repair the leak, which forced the road to buckle in several places.

Crews restored water service by Saturday evening. There’s no word on if the leak damaged any homes.
