With the mercury expected to peak out at nearly 100 degrees this weekend, Metro is taking a big precaution for the safety of its passengers.
Beginning today and continuing through Monday, riders are permitted to drink water on buses, in stations and aboard trains. Metro is encouraging customers to use tightly sealed containers and to properly dispose of trash.
WMATA also lifted its water ban for two days last week as temperatures climbed to near 100 degrees.
Metro also has released some tips for dealing with the coming heat:
- Monitor for heat exhaustion -- if you’re not feeling well don’t get on the train. Metro employees are available for emergency assistance.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluid
- Limit exposure to direct sunlight
- Wear light, loose clothing
