Washington, Arlington Rank in Top 10 for Parks

Two Washington-area park systems were ranked in the top 10 in the nation, according to a nonprofit organization.

The Trust for Public Land bases their ParkScore index on access, size, and facilities and investments. Minneapolis ranked as the top park service with 97 percent of its residents living within a 10-minute walk of a park.

The Washington park service ranked fourth behind San Francisco and ahead of Portland, Oregon. Arlington’s park service ranked sixth.

Both cities had been ranked higher in previous surveys, but San Francisco climbed into third, pulling ahead of Washington and Arlington mostly because of improved access to basketball courts at schoolyards open after hours and on weekends.
