Virginia Offers Incentive to Shop for Hurricane Preparedness

Financial incentive offered

Officials in Virginia want residents to be prepared this hurricane season, and they're offering them a financial incentive to do so.

Batteries, flashlights, bottled water and first aid kids that cost $60 or less will be exempt from state and local sales taxes from May 25 through the 31.

Generators and other bigger-ticket items that cost $1,000 or less will also be exempt.

Retailers can choose to include other hurricane preparedness items, too.

A complete list of tax-exempt products can be found at the state's tax website.
