Virginia Vape Shop Worker Tried to Rape Woman at Gunpoint, Police Say

A worker at a vape shop in Stafford County, Virginia, tried to rape a woman at gunpoint inside the store Friday night, authorities say.

Charles Henry Austin III, 31, was charged with attempted rape and a long list of other counts after he attacked the woman, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said.

Austin's mugshot suggests a violent struggle; his face is cut and scratched.

Deputies responded to a strip mall in the 400 block of Garrisonville Road at about 8:40 p.m. after a report of a suspicious person with a weapon. When they arrived, they found the victim, a 27-year-old woman.

She told deputies she went into the business alone and Austin pointed a gun at her head and tried to sexually assault her. She managed to escape and called for help.

Austin was arrested and held without bond.
