Virginia Roads to Get Federal Disaster Money

Federal funding will help fix damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee

The federal government is helping Virginia pay for roads and bridges that were damaged during Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced Virginia will get $19 million.  About $12.6 million of that will go toward destruction from Irene and $6.5 million will fix roads hurt by Tropical Storm Lee.

In all, $1.6 billion from the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief Program went to repair roads and bridges after hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters.
