A Virginia middle school teacher allegedly spanked a student during the school year and was placed on leave.
Terrence Eugene Yarborough, 53, of Woodbridge, allegedly spanked a 12-year-old girl in the cafeteria of Carl Sandburg Middle School after she twice refused to pick something up off the floor April 4, Fairfax County Police said Tuesday.
The girl reported the principal to a teacher, and the school resource officer, FCPS authorities and Child Protective Services were notified.
Investigations by police and FCPS resulted in a misdemeanor assault and battery charge last week.
Yarborough went to police Monday for the summons to be served. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 4.
