Virginia Man Shoots Suspected Intruder Who Turns Out to Be Acquaintance

A Virginia man shot a suspected intruder in his home Thursday morning, but it turned out to be someone he knew.

The shooting in a townhome on Raina Drive in Centreville was reported about 10: 15 a.m.

The emergency dispatcher appeared to be on the phone with the homeowner, while relaying to officers what he did with the weapon.

“And he put the gun on the kitchen counter,” the dispatcher said.

The dispatcher said just the homeowner and the victim, a 24-year-old man, were the only people in the townhome.

“Apparently it was the daughter’s friend, and he didn’t know who it was so he just shot,” the dispatcher said.

Police did not confirm what relationship the homeowner had with the victim, only saying that they knew each other.

“Officers immediately began rendering aid, and he was transported with non-life-threatening conditions to a local hospital,” Fairfax County police Sgt. James Curry said.

The victim is in stable condition.

No charges have been filed.

“It’s just a sad thing because I know these people; they’re very good people,” neighbor Greg Gardner said.
