Virginia Drivers Join HOT Debate

Public comments welcome on I-95/I-395 Proposal

Local drivers will get the chance to sound off about high-occupancy toll lanes that could be coming to Virginia.

The HOT lanes would run on Interstate 95 and Interstate 395 from the Pentagon to Stafford County.

Motorists would have to pay to use the lanes. Those prices would be based on demand, ranging possibly from 10 cents to $1 per mile. However, buses and carpools with three or more people can continue to use the lanes for free, while non-HOV motorists can choose to pay the toll to access the lanes.

Members of the public are invited to attend three public hearings this week.

The first will be open from 5-9 p.m. Monday at Potomac High School in Dumfries.

The others will be held Tuesday at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield and and Wednesday at Minnie Howard School in Alexandria. Both are from 5-9 p.m.

People can also e-mail comments to Meeting_Comments@VDOT.Virginia.gov. Reference "I-95/395 HOV/Bus/HOT Lanes" in the subject.
