This week: Assault by chest bump

There are crime reports, and then there are crime reports from Vienna, Va.

Few municipalities release the clearinghouse of recent criminal activity that the Vienna Police Department does. The town puts out a "Vienna Police Highlights" report every Friday that's a rundown of "various incidents of general interest."

We'll say.

Vandalism 12-008925
1100 Block Walker Circle, SW
Between May 16 at 12:00 p.m. and June 16 at 12:00 p.m.
A resident reported that a front window pane to her house had been broken. The damage appeared to be caused by a BB pellet.

MPO Shaw interviewed several residents in the area and found the resident responsible for the broken window.

The responsible party agreed to make the necessary repairs to the window. It appears that the incident was accidental in nature.

Jammin’ Java227 Maple Avenue, SE
June 16 1:41 a.m.
A citizen reported that he left his cell phone on the bar while he went to the restroom. When he returned the cell phone was gone.

This case is being investigated.

Telephone Case 12-08936
200 Block Maple Avenue, East
June 16 between 1:36 p.m. and 7:53 p.m.
A citizen reported receiving several telephone calls from a blocked number. The caller spoke with a heavy Hispanic accent. After threatening to report the telephone calls to the police the calls ceased.

This case is being investigated.

Arrest – Alcohol Violation 12-08952

Glyndon Street at Broadleaf Drive, NE
June 17 2:07 a.m.
MPO Sheeran conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the occupants of the vehicle he determined a juvenile passenger to be in possession of alcohol.

MPO Sheeran provided verbal counseling to the juvenile and contacted her father to pick her up.

The father responded and took his daughter home.

Fosters Grill
138 Maple Avenue, West
June 17 2:30 p.m.
A citizen reported that he was assaulted, by being chest bumped, by his girlfriends’ soon to be
ex-husband.

Officer Lyons advised the process to obtain a warrant for the assault by chest bumping.

Assault 12-09016
El Punto Restaurant
262 Cedar Lane, SE
June 18 8:10 p.m.
A resident reported that while he was in the El Punto restaurant a Hispanic male known to him,
challenged him to a fight.

The resident did not want to fight and left the restaurant.

Arrest – Assault 12-09132
200 Block Commons Drive, NW
June 21 between 12:32 a.m. and 2:45 a.m.
A resident reported that she and another female became involved in a verbal argument. The argument turned physical.

After further investigation PFC Myers determined that Ms. Erika Hernandez, 26, of Chainbridge Road in Vienna had thrown a telephone at the victim.

Ms. Hernandez was issued a summons for Assault and released after signing the summons.

Petit Larceny 12-09165
Chipotle Restaurant
213 Maple Avenue, SE
June 21 between 1:00 p.m and 1:29 p.m.
A citizen reported that she and some friends were sitting outside the Chipotle Restaurant. They soon went inside to get out of the heat and while inside they left their keys on the seat outside.

When they returned one set of keys were gone.

June 21 between 3:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
A citizen reported that someone had stolen her wallet from her purse. She told MPO Evans that she did leave her shopping cart and purse unattended a few times while shopping.

This case is being investigated.
