Verizon Store Employees Tied Up; Phones, Cash Taken

Three men stormed a Verizon store in Montgomery County Tuesday night, tying up employees before taking cash and several cell phones, police said.

Two of the men entered the store in the 2200 block of Bel Pre Road in Aspen Hill, Md., as the store was closing around 8 p.m.

They tied up the two employees and moved them to an area where they couldn't see what was going on before a third man entered the store and cleared out cash and phones before all three took off, News4's Jim Rosenfield reported.

At least one of the men was armed.

One employee was able to struggle free and called police just after 8 p.m., police said. Neither employee was injured.

Police can't say if the robbery is related to other similar recent robberies.

"I know as a fact that there was another armed robbery of a cell phone business, maybe approximately a month, a month and a half ago, down near Georgia [Avenue] and University [Boulevard], and I do know that there's also been commmercial burglaries of the same types of stores," said Capt. Bob Bolestra of the Montgomery County Police.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance video from the incident.
