VDOT Makes Changes at Intersection After Fatal Crash

The Virginia Department of Transportation made changes to a Loudoun County, Virginia, road where a mother of three was killed and her children were injured in a crash.

Erin Kaplin, 39, died after a converted school bus slammed into her car on Evergreen Mills Road on Sept. 8. Four others, including three children, were injured.

The intersection of Evergreen Mills Road and Watson Road, where the fatal crash occurred, has a blind turn for those traveling on Watson Road. VDOT said there is a larger stop sign on Watson Road to alert drivers to the intersection, and crews have cleared away brush to make sure all signs are clearly visible.

VDOT said engineers are studying the area to determine if they need to put up a traffic signal at the intersection.

No charges have been filed in the crash. Investigators are still trying working to determine the cause of the collision.
