VDOT Lifts Lane Closures for the Holidays

Plan to ease holiday traffic

Temporary highway lane closures will be suspended across Virginia to help holiday travelers reach their destinations.

Lane closures in temporary work zones will be lifted from noon Friday to noon Dec. 27 and from noon Dec. 30 to noon Jan. 3, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The I-95/395 reversible lanes will be open to all southbound traffic from 6 p.m. Friday until 2 p.m. Saturday and again from 6 p.m. Dec. 30 until 2 p.m. Dec. 31. The lanes will be open to all northbound traffic from 4 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Dec. 27 and from 4 p.m. Dec. 31 until 6 a.m. Jan. 3. HOV restrictions on I-95, I-395 and I-66 will be lifted Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

The department said Monday that it also will monitor the weather for any snow or ice that could affect travel.

Travelers can check road conditions and traffic incidents on VDOT's travel information website, ww.511Virginia.org, or the mobile version for handheld devices, mobile511virginia.org. The service also can be accessed by telephone calling 511.
