Sean Logan, 17, Dies Four Days After Mini-Bike Accident

Teen was driving "pit bike" on Reston Parkway when he crossed into path of two oncoming vehicles

A 17-year-old boy has died from the injuries he suffered in a mini-bike accident in Reston, Va., last week.

Sean Logan was driving the "pit bike" northbound on Reston Parkway on Thursday when he made a left turn onto westbound Wiehle Avenue, crossing into the path of two oncoming vehicles.

Fairfax County police say a 2004 Acura MDX struck Logan and then hit a 2008 Lexus GX470. Both vehicles had the right-of-way.

Logan died of his injuries at an area hospital Monday.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Police do not anticipate filing charges.

Pit bikes or mini-bikes are miniaturized versions of full-sized motorcycles, and their small size and high speeds can make them dangerous to operate, especially around other vehicles.

According to a guide published by Fairfax County, mini-bikes are illegal to operate on Virginia's highways, sidewalks, bikeways and hiking trails. But they can be driven on private property with the permission of the property owner.
