Drivers who run from police in Virginia will not have to fear losing their vehicles.
The Senate Courts of Justice Committee voted Monday to kill a bill that would have required criminals who elude police to forfeit their vehicles. The local sheriff would sell the cars, and money would go toward education.
Republican Del. Manoli Loupassi of Richmond brought the bill after a Richmond pastor was killed last year when he was hit by a man involved in a police chase.
Sen. John Edwards of Roanoke said there were too many problems with the bill, and that legislators feared "uneven results."
The bill had passed out of the House unanimously earlier this month.
