Three Fairfax County rescue dogs and their handlers are heading home after two weeks searching for victims of a deadly mudslide in Washington state.
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova will welcome the dogs and handlers home on Thursday morning at the rescue team's headquarters in Chantilly.
The dogs and handlers found the bodies of several mudslide victims. County officials say they were specifically requested to aid in the recovery efforts.
Thirty-nine people have been found dead following the March 22 mudslide, which buried dozens of homes in a community about 55 miles northeast of Seattle.
Bulova says the Fairfax K-9 team members helped bring closure to victims' families.
