State environmental officials say a chicken processing plant in Shenandoah County has violated its water pollution permit a second time since August.
The allegation involves the George's Inc. plant in Edinburg. Gary Flory of the Department of Environmental Quality's Harrisonburg office says the company reported that its wastewater plant was emitting higher-than-permitted levels of ammonia into Stony Creek.
Flory told the Daily News-Record that citizen groups reported a "different look" to the river discharge.
The same plant was cited in August for heightened levels of ammonia and nitrogen in the creek.
Bob Kenney is vice president of Virginia operations for George's. He said the plant is tested daily so these kinds of problems can be dealt with as soon as they occur.
