Va. Football Player Awaits Judge's Ruling

A Montgomery County judge has delayed a ruling in the case of a Norfolk State football player accusing of injuring his infant daughter.

Circuit Judge Bobby Turk said Tuesday after a bench trial that he expects to reach a decision next month in the case of 22-year-old Xavier Boyce. The Roanoke Times reports Turk wants to research other, similar cases.

Two doctors testified Boyce's daughter appeared to have head injuries consistent with violent force such as shaking.

Defense attorney Melvin Hill testified the state had no direct evidence against Boyce.

Boyce, a wide receiver, was suspended from Virginia Tech's football team after his arrest last year on a felony child endangerment charge and he transferred to Norfolk State.

Boyce faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
