Utility Pole Down on Metro Tracks

Trains single-tracking on Red Line

A utility pole fell and hit a Metro train near the New York Avenue station Friday afternon.

The train was moved back to the platform and offloaded, and the pole fell onto the right away, preventing trains from passing.

No one was injured by the falling pole, but the incident caused Red Line delays in both directions. Red Line trains are sharing the same track between the Rhode Island Avenue and New York Avenue stations.

Riders should expect major delays. There's no estimate as to when the pole will be cleared.
