USPS Mail Carrier Pistol Whipped, Robbed in DC

A United States Postal Service mail carrier was punched, kicked and pistol whipped in Northeast D.C. Saturday.

The postal worker was out delivering mail about 6 p.m. in the 2300 block of 2nd St. NE when two men approached him asking for some rubber bands, said Lt. Brad Wagner with the Metropolitan Police Department.

After the carrier complied and handed them some rubber bands the suspects jumped him, punching and kicking him onto the ground. They then pistol whipped him with a handgun and stole his mail satchel, shoes, phone and wallet, which had $10 inside, Wagner said.

The mail carrier suffered a cut to his right eye.

The United States Postal Inspection Service is investigating and a reward of up to $50,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction for those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call 1 (877) 876-2455.
