UMBC Headed to NCAA Tournament for First Time in a Decade

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County Retrievers beat out top-seeded Vermont, paving the way for the team's first NCAA tournament game since 2008.

UMBC won the American East tournament after Silver Spring native Jairus Lyles broke a tie with a last second 3-point shot, putting the Retrievers ahead 65-62.

Lyles scored 27 points to lead the second-seeded Retrievers (24-10) to their second conference title and second trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Tre Bell-Haynes scored 18 for Vermont (27-6).

The team is now guaranteed to be one of 68 teams that will play in the NCAA Tournament, which begins Tuesday.
