A woman and a man were fatally shot while sitting in the back of a Lyft car in Southeast D.C. Thursday, police say.
Two suspects opened fire on the gray Toyota Camry in the 3700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE about 5 p.m., police said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was taken to a hospital where he died, police said.
Police identified the victims as Mecca India Tyshea Gravette, 23, and Sukarno Turner, 25, on Friday.
The Lyft driver was not hurt.
He told News4 on Friday that the Gravette and Turner tried to warn him and tell him to speed up, but he didn't understand.
"They said go faster! Go fast! You are in danger," he said.

He said he laid down in the driver's seat as the bullets flew by -- one of them barely missed his shoulder.
"I'm lucky," he said.
Police confirmed Turner was recently named in an indictment that alleges a D.C. police civilian employee was passing sensitive information to a street gang member. Police said Turner may have been targeted because of his connections to that case.
Two suspects were still at large Friday. Police said they are looking for a white four-door Hyundai Accent.
"I believe that they know that they're wanted and we are actively looking at them and maybe the safest place for them would be in our custody at this point," D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said.
