Two Shootings, Several Robberies Reported in D.C. Overnight

The shootings and robberies come just hours after Police Chief Cathy Lanier asked the public to come forward with more information about any case in the District.

Police responded to two shootings and several robberies overnight, as the District continues to battle an uptick in crime.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of Frederick Douglas Place SE just before 11:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Police say the victim was shot in the stomach. He was conscious and breathing when he was transported to the hospital, but there's no word on his current condition.

Thirty minutes later, police were called to another shooting in the 1300 block of Florida Avenue NE.

No arrests have been made in either case.

Several robberies were also reported overnight.

The shootings and robberies come just hours after Police Chief Cathy Lanier asked the public to come forward with more information about any case in the District. Lanier also released new homicide statistics for the city.

There have been 94 homicides in the city this year, an increase of over 30 percent. At this time last year, there had been 72 murders.

Police have also made 52 homicide arrests compared to 38 in 2014.  And in the last 30 days, police have recovered 102 illegal firearms.
