A CSX train struck and killed two pedestrians in Montgomery County Wednesday night, according to police.
Authorities say the men were walking on the tracks around 11:10 p.m. Wednesday near the Garrett Park train station on Rokeby Avenue in Garrett Park.
The conductor saw the men on the tracks, applied the brakes and activated the horn several times before the train struck them.
The victims have been identified as Elvin Rojas, 20, and Alejandro Uribe, 19, both of Wheaton.
It's not clear why they were on the tracks. Authorities are investigating their deaths as accidental.
Both CSX and MARC trains use the station, but service was not disrupted. The trains move through the area at full speed and travel through several nearby residential neighborhoods, reported News4's Derrick Ward.
Last summer, two college students were killed in a CSX accident near Ellicott City. Elizabeth Nass and Rose Mayr were sitting on a train bridge over when a freighter train carrying 9,000 tons of coal derailed, burying them under the coal.
