Scammers Using Jury Duty Ploy

Residents in Virginia are receiving phone calls telling them that warrants have been issued for their arrest for dodging jury duty.  The caller then requests a social security number or a credit card number.

The Vienna Police Department is saying these phone calls are a scam.

Court officers will never request personal information like a Social Security number over the phone, the Loudon County Clerk's office said.  If residents are uncertain of their jury duty status, they should call the court offices' themselves, authorties advise.

The golden rule of scam protection ,according to the Vienna Police, is "if you didn't initiate the institution that wants personal information, it's probably a scam."
