Truck Carrying 1,700 Gallons of Fuel Overturns in SE DC

A truck carrying 1,700 gallons of diesel fuel overturned in Southeast Washington Friday morning, leaking fuel onto the roadway.

The truck overturned on the 2300 block of South Capitol Street SE, just south of Anacostia Park.

Five hundred gallons of fuel spilled onto the road before hazmat crews at the scene were able to reduce the leak to a trickle. Crews are using sand to prevent the spill from spreading.

Fireboats were also sent to the Anacostia River to determine whether any fuel reached the water.

No injuries were reported.
