Beer Truck Crashes on Beltway, Brewing Up Traffic Trouble

A stretch of the Capital Beltway in Maryland looked a bit like the sticky floor of a dive bar on Sunday morning.

A truck carrying 4,000 pounds of canned beer crashed into a guard rail on the Outer Loop near University Boulevard in Silver Spring about 4 a.m. after being forced off the road by a vehicle that changed lanes, Maryland State Police said.

The truck overturned, spilling beer and cans across the road, State Police told WTOP.

State Police say the truck driver was transported to a hospital. The extent of his injuries is unclear.

The right side of I-495 was blocked for hours, but has since cleared, WTOP reported.
