A tornado touched down in Charles County, Maryland, Saturday causing damage to trees and roofs, weather officials say.
The National Weather Service said Sunday that an EF1 tornado with maximum winds of 90 miles per hour started in northern La Plata and traveled northeast for more than 8 miles to the Waldorf area.
There were no injuries.
Along the tornado's path, numerous trees snapped, uprooted and toppled in multiple directions, NWS reported. The fallen trees downed many power lines and blocked multiple roads. Trees and large branches also fell onto homes and garages.
Some homes and buildings in the tornado's path lost roof shingles and insulation.
A light post was also blown over and some windows blown out. In Waldorf, a car port was lifted and collapsed on a few vehicles.
February tornadoes in Maryland and the D.C. area are rare, according to NWS.
