Topgolf National Harbor Swings Into Prince George's County

Golf lovers from around Prince George's County were eager to put their golfing skills to the test when Topgolf National Harbor opened its doors Friday.

But the entertainment venue isn't just for golf enthusiasts; those who aren't fans of the sport can have a good time, too.

"Half the people who walk into a Topgolf venue across the U.S. have never picked up a golf club," said Kelsey Hannah, marketing manager for Topgolf DC National Harbor. "They are here for the social aspect and we love that."

Topgolf began in the U.K. and opened its first U.S. location in Alexandria, Virginia, 14 years ago. The National Harbor's newest venue is Topgolf's 55th location.

"We hired over 500 associates for Topgolf National Harbor, which is incredible to bring Prince George's County [and] the D.C. area," Hannah said.

Guests can bring their own clubs, or use the ones that the venue provides. Don't bring your balls though — the ones at Topgolf are high-tech.

"Once you hit it, you get a stream. It has how fast you hit it, the lag time, the wind that affected it, it's awesome," Hannah said.

There are all kinds of games you can play while driving the ball, and the venue also includes a bar and restaurant. For golfing beginners who want to work on their swing, Topgolf also has a golf expert to give lessons at the venue.

It's a fun time for guests of all ages, including Charles County resident Eddie Holt IV, who was at the venue to celebrate his 12th birthday with his family.

"It's a lot cooler and the atmosphere is much better than sitting on the golf course for four hours," said Eddie Holt III.

Residents see the new entertainment space as proof that companies want to invest in Prince George's County.

"It feels like a new season for Prince George's County," said Anthony Vaughn, who lives in the area. "It's finally here, and it's a great time to be a part of that."
