Top Nationals Pitching Prospect Cade Cavalli Promoted to Double-A

Fresh off one of the best starts by any pitcher in the Nationals organization this season, top prospect Cade Cavalli is being rewarded with a promotion to Double-A Harrisburg.

Cavalli wowed fans during a dominant performance on Sunday with 15 strikeouts over seven no-hit innings. The top pitching prospect in the organization now owns a 1.77 ERA during the 2021 season and has lept into the top 40 prospects in baseball, according to some evaluators.

Normally, a pitcher drafted in the back half of the first round who lost a true first professional season - along with every other prospect as a result of the canceled minor league year in 2020 - would have a long way to reach the top of his organization's prospect depth chart, but Cavalli has proven himself immediately.

The Nationals have never been shy about aggressively promoting their best prospects, so despite Cavalli's relative inexperience, it's not too surprising to see a first-round college pitcher moving quickly through the ranks. The Oklahoma product has an injury history - which pitcher doesn't? - but the Nats have never been afraid to take talented pitchers with big fastballs, and Cavalli fits the bill perfectly.

MLB Pipeline projects the potential future ace to reach the big leagues in 2022, so this is another step toward Cavalli making an impact in Washington.
