Boy, 2, Found at Bottom of Pool at Virginia Water Park

A 2-year-old boy is in life-threatening condition after he was found at the bottom of a water park pool Sunday evening in Virginia.

Officers were called to the Pirate's Cove Waterpark at Pohick Bay Regional Park in Lorton about 5 p.m. to investigate a medical emergency. The boy was found in a three- to four-foot-deep area of the pool as it was being cleared due to lightning in the area, investigators said.

Lifeguards started CPR and the nearby Marine Patrol Unit responded and took over lifesaving efforts. The toddler was rushed to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

The little boy had "indications of breathing and a pulse" when he was taken to the hospital, said Paul Gilbert, the executive director of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, which oversees Pirate's Cove.

The pool was fully staffed at the time with 15 lifeguards.

The boy had gone to the park with his parents and siblings.

The incident is under investigation.
