Tips Are Low, Service Is Stellar in Sochi

Something I have noticed while in Sochi: We've been urged to tip 5 percent. Apparently, there is such a thing as a too-large tip in Russia.

In fact, originally tipping in Russia was not allowed. Though it now is, our guides advise us: Don't scrutinize your bill. It makes the server feel uncomfortable.

We can add a little more to that tip for really good service, but it's still lower than the U.S.

So that's what we're doing, though I have to say -- I think the service deserves a lot more. We've gotten a very warm reception since we arrived 11 days ago.

In other news: My colleague, Alex Prudovsky, has added some great photos of the International Broadcast Center (our office away from the office) to my photo album. Check them out here!
