New teen drivers age 16 and 17 are almost three times as likely as adults to be involved in a fatal crash, new research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety says.
Drivers in this age group are 3.9 times likely as drivers 18 and older to be involved in a crash and 2.6 times as likely to be in a fatal crash.
The biggest risk factors are distraction, speeding and not wearing a seat belt.
A number of apps can help prevent distracted driving and reward safe driving habits.
