A MOTHER AND A THIEF
Police say a woman who gave birth at a Massachusetts hospital tried to leave the maternity ward with more than just a newborn. Framingham police say Jennifer Morris stole another new mother's purse containing a cell phone and digital camera that she sold to get money for crack cocaine. (MSNBC)

CAPS FANS: CROSBY A CRYBABY
Sidney Crosby has zoomed way past LeBron James as Washington's No. 1 sporting villain, but it's interesting how similar the themes are. Remember the "Crybaby 23" T-shirts and the posters of LeBron holding a baby bottle?  Well, Sunday at Verizon Center there were massive pacifiers and boxes of tissues, no-diving signs and no-diving T-shirts, Photoshopped photos of Crosby as a child in a family portrait and of Crosby with pacifier, plus at least one baby doll in Crosby attire. WASHINGTON AREA IS HYBRID HAVEN
The number of hybrid vehicles in the Washington region has jumped dramatically, according to preliminary data from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.  Northern Virginian communities led in sheer numbers with 24,635 hybrids registered in 2008, according to the draft report. But suburban Maryland’s share of registered hybrid vehicles grew faster, quintupling since 2005 from 2,640 to 13,486. Because the report has not been finalized, hybrid numbers for the District are not yet included. (DC Examiner)

MCGRUFF ALWAYS GETS THE LAST LAUGH
A Metro bus driver accused of punching an off-duty police officer who was dressed as McGruff the Crime Dog has been fired, the transit agency said today.  Shawn Brim, 39, a Metro driver since June 2003, was fired Friday after an internal investigation of the Feb. 28 incident, Metro spokeswoman Candace Smith said. She declined to provide details of the inquiry, but said the decision to fire Brim was based on a D.C. police report of the alleged punch and a Metro supervisor's review of what happened.
