TEA PARTY RALLY HITS DC
Tea party protesters marked tax day Thursday with exhortations against "gangster government" and appeals from Republicans seeking their grass-roots clout in November elections, a prospect both tempting and troubling to those in the loose movement.
Several thousand rallied in Washington's Freedom Plaza in the shadow of the Ronald Reagan office building, capping a national protest tour launched in the dust of Nevada and finishing in the capital that inspires tea party discontent like no other place. Allied activists demonstrated from Maine to Hawaii in hundreds of lively protests, all joined in disdain for government spending and _ on the April 15 federal tax filing deadline _ what they see as the Washington tax grab. HATCH VOWS FILIBUSTER OF DC VOTING RIGHTS BILL
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said Thursday he would filibuster a bill to give the District of Columbia a voting member of Congress if it reaches the Senate.
Hatch announced his opposition to the legislation, which is headed to the House floor by next Thursday, because it would add a new congressional seat in Utah that would be elected statewide, instead of in a new congressional district. (The Hill)
DC OFFICER CARJACK STORY CHANGES
Baltimore police say a D.C. police officer who claimed to have been carjacked while stopped at a red light has changed his story.
Charging documents show that Officer Kevin Carey changed his story several times while being interviewed by Baltimore police. He ultimately came clean and said he picked up a woman and agreed to give her a ride for $10.

A new conservative Web site has ranked Prince George's County as the 32nd most liberal county in America, citing its overwhelming Democratic voting block.
More than 85 percent of voters in Prince George's County supported the president in the 2008 election, enough to earn it a place in the Daily Caller's list of "America's 100 most liberal-friendly counties" published April 8. The partisan news site was launched in January by conservative pundit Tucker Carlson. (Gazette.net)
