The Battle to Keep Illegal Immigrants Out

A government agency is laying out the facts about its efforts to keep illegal immigrants out of the country and out of northern Virginia communities.

Prince William County supervisors said they've provided U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement with more than 3,000 names of illegal immigrants convicted of crimes, but they've returned to the streets.

That’s why the county board is considering calling on Congress to investigate how the Department of Homeland Security handles illegal immigrants turned over by the county.

A spokeswoman for ICE said the complaints don’t match up with the facts.

During its two years in operation, ICE has removed more illegal immigrants from the country than any other time in history. Close to 393,000 individuals were removed last year alone. That's up more than 3,000 from the year before. Of those removed, 196,000 were convicted criminals.
