Teens Likely Unintended Targets in Southeast D.C. Shooting

A police report says two 17-year-olds were likely unintended targets in a triple shooting near a southeast D.C. school Tuesday morning.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the teens and a 20-year-old were getting off a Metrobus in the 3100 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE when they got into an altercation around 9 a.m.

A suspect then approached the three victims and fired 5 or 6 shots. The teens were "in the area and were subsequently struck by gunfire," according to a D.C. police report obtained by News4.

Both teens are students at Ballou High School. The third victim is a former student at the school.

All three suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police used dogs and helicopters to search for two gunmen, who remain at large.
