A 14-year-old boy's hand got stuck in a Metro escalator Tuesday evening.
The boy, who is from Canada and is visiting D.C. with his family, got four fingers caught at the bottom of an escalator at the National Mall entrance of the Smithsonian Metro Station after 8 p.m.
According to Metro, the teen's hand got stuck when he was trying to free his flip-flop, which got caught first.
He was conscious and breathing as crews worked for about 40 minutes to free his hand. He was taken to an area hospital.
The escalator remains out of service for evaluation but will probably be placed back in service Wednesday.
