A 19-year-old has pleaded guilty to theft and assault after he tried to steal an off-duty police officer's car while the officer's daughter was in the backseat.
Demetrice Littles entered the plea this week in Prince George's County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to two years in prison.
Prosecutors say on March 15, Littles tried to steal a car that was running in a police officer's driveway in Clinton. The officer's 9-year-old daughter was in the backseat.
Authorities say when Littles began to back the car out of the driveway, the officer drew his service weapon and ordered Littles to stop. Prosecutors say Littles drove toward the officer, who shot at him. Littles hit a parked car and ran away.
Littles was arrested at a hospital.
