A teenager is in critical condition after a shooting in Silver Spring, Md.
Officers responded to a home on Hutchinson Lane just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and found a 19-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest.
He was rushed to a nearby trauma center in "extremely critical condition," said Cpl. Dan Friz with Montgomery County Police.
Nearby Kennedy High School was placed under a lockdown briefly while police canvassed the area. The school was cleared as safe, and able to dismiss students on time.
Details about the suspects were not immediately available. Friz said the area is generally quiet and called the shooting "very unusual for this neighborhood."
Neighbors told NBC Washington that the teen lives with his extended family. They said the family is very close-knit and part of the local Haitian community.
A pastor said the teen and his family attend Calvary Baptist Church in the District, and that the entire congregation is praying for them.
