Howard County police have arrested and charged a teenage couple in the stabbing death of the girl's father in Ellicott City.
Dennis Lane was found stabbed to death inside his home on Winding Ross Way early Friday morning, police said.
Morgan Arnold, 14 and Jason Bulmer, 19, have been charged with first- and second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Police said Arnold, who was charged as an adult, is the victim's daughter, and described Bulmer as her boyfriend. They believe Arnold and Bulmer discussed killing Lane via electronic communication over the past two months.
Investigators say that Arnold told Bulmer that she would leave the basement sliding glass door unlocked so he could enter during the night Thursday. Once Bulmer was inside, police say that Arnold encouraged him to stab her father.
Authorities say a woman inside the house heard the commotion and called police at approximately 4:20 a.m. Friday. It is unknown what, if any relation the woman had to Lane or Arnold.
Officers said they found Bulmer with blood on his hands and clothes. He and Arnold were sitting together in an upstairs bedroom. Lane was found dead of multiple stab wounds in a different bedroom.
Police said it is still unclear why the teens killed Lane, though detectives believe that Arnold told Bulmer they would run away together after committing the murder.
