Task Force Takes Lyme Disease Fight to Loudoun County

After seven months studying ways to combat the illness, the Virginia Lyme Disease Task Force delivered its report in Loudoun County Thursday.

Lyme is spreading across Virginia, and Loudoun has more cases than any other county in the commonwealth.

“I think it’s the greatest health threat of our time,” said task force chair Michael Farris, of Purcellville. Eight of his 10 family members have Lyme.

The task force is focusing on raising awareness  among medical professional.  Purcellville resident Michael Farris chairs the group - eight of his 10 family members have lyme disease.

Among its dozens of recommendations, the task force said doctors and the  public must understand Lyme disease diagnosis can’t be limited to looking for a rash and that a test used by some doctors is highly inaccurate. The task force called the test malpractice.
