Man Suspected in String of Sex Crimes in DC, Arlington

Police in D.C. and Arlington say they've caught a man responsible for a string of sex crimes dating back to 2016.

Santiago Rodriquez Campos, 34, of Fairfax County, was arrested Aug. 9 and charged with an incident that happened nearly a year ago.

Police say the victim was walking in the area of 14th Street North on Aug. 29, 2017, when a man approached her from behind, exposed his genitals and brushed against her. The suspect left the scene before police arrived.

He was arrested after two D.C. officers spotted him wearing a white-and-red mask and appearing to be preparing to sneak up on a woman, police said.

Officers got Campos' DNA and linked him to four cases in D.C. and one in Arlington. In Arlington, he's a suspect in at least nine other cases.

"Obviously, this is somebody who has been doing this behavior for a long time, so in addition to our detectives reviewing this, we're asking the public to come forward if they have any information," Arlington police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said.

Campos has been charged with sexual battery and indecent exposure. Additional charges are pending, police say.
