Suspect Kidnaps, Assaults Ex-Girlfriend, Flees Police

Virginia police said a man assaulted and kidnapped his ex-girfriend, but was caught after fleeing from police Saturday morning.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 11900 block of Belafonte Road after the victim called 911 to report being assaulted. The 911 operator also heard the victim being forced into a vehicle by the suspect, Ross Carter, 42, of Spotsylvania.

When the deputies arrived, they did not find the suspect or the victim. They began searching the area and sent out an alert to all surrounding areas.

Virginia State troopers spotted the suspect’s vehicle and gave chase in the area of Lewiston Road. Carter bailed out and fled on foot after a brief chase.

Troopers rescued the victim from the vehicle, who was allegedly injured by Carter.

Carter was eventually captured and charged with Felony Abduction and Malicious Wounding. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital.
