Scattered Showers and Storms Roll Through Amid Heat, Humidity

Storm Team4 is tracking showers and a few thunderstorms making their way through the region Monday evening amid the heat and humidity.

Monday has felt muggy and hot, with temperatures topping out at 88 degrees.

Starting Tuesday, it's expected to heat up even more. Tuesday and Wednesday should be in the low 90s, and Thursday through Sunday have anticipated high temps in the mid to upper 90s with a heat index near 100.

A heat wave is defined as three or more consecutive days where the high temperature exceeds 90 degrees.

"Expect an official heat wave to get doing in the D.C. area starting Tuesday and continuing at least through Saturday," Storm Team4 Meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts said.

Rain chances will be kept at a minimum Tuesday afternoon through Friday, but be prepared for those hot days.

The heat will stay in place at least through Saturday; then our warm pattern will begin to break down.
