String of Armed Robberies in Sterling Likely Related: PD

Police say six early morning armed robberies of women in a Northern Virginia city are likely related.

The attacks began in December, when two women reported being attacked at gunpoint in Sterling and ordered to hand over cash. In one case, the suspect ordered the woman take her clothes off.

Two months later, two similar attacks were reported in the city. And just last weekend, two more robberies, also of women, were reported minutes apart.

Saturday morning around 5 a.m. a 62-year-old woman reported being robbed and pistol-whipped by a stranger wearing a hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses. About 30 minutes later, a 52-year-old woman reported a similar robbery, but in her case, the suspect made her take off her pants and sexually assaulted her.

"Early morning hours, I think all the descriptions, or at least most of them, he was wearing a hoodie, so it appears as though they're connected," Loudoun County Sheriff Michael Chapman said.

Deputies hope to release a sketch in the latest case Monday afternoon.
