Rain, Cooler Air Move Into Area

Several inches of rain possible Sunday

There's a little something for everyone in the most recent weather forecasts.

Temperatures made the low 80s Saturday afternoon ahead of the cold front and the thundershowers. With an active, and chilly, pattern setting up we may not see 80 degrees for another 10-14 days (or longer).

The rains impacted Saturday evening plans. The first rain chance ended around midnight, but the next shot of rain is due into the D.C. metro area by mid- to late Sunday morning.

The rain will become heavy on Sunday afternoon and evening with 1" to 3" of rain possible along and to the east of the I-95 corridor.

As the Nor'Easter races up the coast it will draw extremely cold air down along the backside of the system. This means that rain will likely change over to snow for most if not all of the higher terrain west of the Blue Ridge.

Winter storm watches are posted for far Western Maryland, Central West Virginia and portions of Pennsylvania. Places like Frostburg, Md., could see 3"-5" of snow by early Monday morning.

Conversational snowflakes could get as close as Martinsburg and Winchester on Monday while the D.C. metro will struggle to reach the high 40s.
